Information Assurance

Information assurance is a huge buzz word of late in the technical security industry. This especially holds true for government security contracts. Most technical security solutions of the modern age are internet protocol (IP) compatible. When new IP devices are introduced to a network, information assurance is required to assess if they create vulnerabilities on the network. The technical security and information technology (IT) worlds have been converging for several years so the fact the information assurance is relevant to technical security installations is no surprise.

Information assurance practices are rarely understood by security professionals. Traditional security and surveillance solutions were not connected to the customer’s IT network. Once these technical systems began communicating via IP, information assurance and similar skill sets became incredibly important. Information assurance can be somewhat subjective so it is very difficult to satisfy related requirements without a thorough understanding of the information assurance process. IT security vulnerabilities emerge daily so it is very difficult to play catch up and try to become a subject matter expert without extensive experience in the information assurance arena.

Without information assurance, every new device that is connected to an IT network becomes a potential vulnerability. Even if the device itself is not the problem, a new avenue into the IT network is available for people seeking to exploit network weaknesses. Information assurance looks into the potential network threats that each added component introduces and provides mitigation strategies to minimize network risk. Mitigation options resulting from a properly conducted information assurance assessment can range from technical to protocol to procedural safeguards that can be put in place to protect the IT network. Orion Security Solutions is proud to have elite information assurance experts on staff and invite you to call us and inquire about any related questions or concerns you may have.

We look forward to seeing you here at The O next Wednesday. Have a great week.

Thank you. It is new for most of the security industry too, who are largely still getting comfortable with the aspects of IT in general. IA issues are starting to hit hard and fast so we are staying ahead of the curve and fortunate to provide these services. Good luck to you too and thank you for your comments.

Great point Sean. When speaking with other IT professionals, most don't understand what IA is. Good luck with your IA team.
