Command and Control Centers

Large organizations often desire to have a command and control center to provide them the ability to centrally administer security operations. The philosophy of command and control centers highlights right sizing resources and assets, efficiently responding to incidents of interest, and making decisions with as much accurate and valid information as possible. Protocols are typically established to standardize responses to various situations. Command and control centers also provide the opportunity to effectively apply lessons learned to continually streamline security procedures.

Establishing centralized command and control centers allows organizations to consolidate critical resources that are necessary to make crucial decisions in times of crisis or emergency. Distributed command and control architectures have some advantages, but lack many of the benefits of centralized command centers. With both these command and control philosophies, communication is paramount. Most modern surveillance and security systems are IP-based so IT network integrity between remote network resources and the command and control center is imperative. Redundant communications is highly recommended and ensuring sufficient bandwidth to transmit all information efficiently is a must.

When designed properly and outfitted with the proper technology, command and control centers provide an organization with an invaluable tool of situational awareness. Sophisticated technology, like that offered by Orion Security Solutions, allows users to create event based rules so that response can come automatically when certain things happen. This capability allows experts to predict events of interest, define responses, and dispatch resources in real time, many times without human intervention. Responses can also be manually directed using the command and control center infrastructure for any unique events that didn’t have a predefined procedure and protocol.

Contact Orion Security Solutions to learn more about the various command and control center options for your organization. We look forward to seeing you here at The O next Wednesday.
